The online continuing education courses have been designed to fulfill 8 hours of Alabama CE Credits. The courses review such topics as heat transmission, load calculations, equipment selection, infiltration, and ventilation from the Manual N: Commercial Load Calculations. Heat gain of structures, glass heat transfers, requirements for mechanical ventulation, and mutli-zone systems from the Manual J: Residential Load Calculation. And definitions, general regulations, ventilation, and duct systems from the 2003 International Mechanical Code.

- To renew your HVAC Contractor License in the state of Alabama, a licensee must complete at least 8 hours of continuing education every two years.
- Licenses expire December 31 annually. Continuing education hours are due every other year based on when the original license was issued. If your license was issued in the year 2000 or before, your CE hours are due by December 31 of each even year. If your license was issued in 2001 or beyond, your CE hours are due every other year.
- Certificates of completion must be maintained by the license holder to prove the hours have been completed at the demand of the licensing board. Audits are performed randomly.
- Hours are not allowed to be carried over and must be completed during the two year period.
- Course providers are approved based on the qualifications of the instructors. Course content is not approved.
- Courses must be based on subject matter deemed acceptable by the Alabama Licensing Board.
- A Certificate of Completion must be provided within 30 days of the course completion. American Contractors issues and mails the certificate within one business day of course completion.
- Courses are approved in two hour increments. Typically, online courses provided by American Contractors include two hours of instruction and two hours are allotted for the 25 questions following the presentation.
- Online courses are considered self-study; therefore, must include a 70% passing score on at least 25 questions covering the subject matter.
Understanding Load Calculations

This 4-hour course covers A/C load calculations for residential buildings using the Manual J and A/C load calculations for commercial buildings using the Manual N. Online courses are considered self-study; therefore, must include a 70% passing score on at least 15 questions covering the subject matter.
