There are general commercial contractor continuing education currently under development. These courses will cover a wide variety of topics and current issues in commercial building. The courses that will be offered are:

  • Green building - Topics that will be covered are wind power generators, rainwater harvesting, recycled wood flooring, permeable pavement, and constructed wetlands for wastewater treatment.
  • OSHA - The subject matter will cover preventing fatalities, construction regulations for the building industry, fire protection and prevention, first aid and medical attention, and scaffolds.
  • Plan reading - This includes effective techniques of plan reading, sites plans, building plans, foundation plans, ceiling plans, framing plans, electrical plans, and architectural symbols.
  • Concrete - This continuing education program will provide current information on building code requirements for high winds, safe rooms and storm shelters, wind forces and wind resistant construction,concrete masonry, precast concrete, removable forms, and insulating concrete forms
  • HVAC & Mold - Now that mold is a hot topic in the construction industry, this course will cover HVAC systems as a source of mold, new construction and mold, rightsizing, standards and regulations, liability, and litigation.
  • Roofing - This course will review gable roofs, hip roofs, rise and pitch, overhangs, calculating roof area, and roofing terminology.


  • The following courses are not approved for continuing education; however, these courses are useful for nearly any trade in the construction industry.
